Hi,
I couldn't decide which book to read and decide to ask for your advice, please take a look at the list http://lexion-consultants.com/assets/media/back.php?4c4d

I don't use cork roadbed as it's hard to get here in Aus. I have used the Woodland Scenics foam track underlay and it was okay. On my new layout I am using Trackrite Underlay and it is amazing. Not sure if it is available where you are but it is worth getting hold of. You're better off using an underlay. It makes it easier to ballast your track, and looks good, plus it reduces noise.
What size layout are you doing?
